Un partito per un mondo migliore?A party for a fairer Wordl?

Lo scorso 20 novembre si sono svolte le elezioni politiche in Spagna con una schiacciante vittoria di Mariano Rajoy e il partito popolare.

Prima delle elezioni, ho deciso che fosse interessante seguire la campagna elettorale di un partito minoritario raccontando una delle realtà alternative al bipolarismo attuale (nel caso della Spagna del PSOE – socialistas – e del PP – populares).

In questo momento di totale sfiducia nei confronti dei governi e dei politici volevo raccontare che esistono ancora persone che credono in certi ideali e lottano per essi.

La mia scelta è ricaduta sul “Partido por un mundo más justo” (partito per un mondo migliore). Si tratta di un partito non schierato né a destra, né a sinistra (e nemmeno troppo vicino al movimento de los indignados del 15M) e fondato 8 anni fa da persone che lavorano principalmente nel mondo della cooperazione.

Il partito ha come obiettivo raggiungere la rappresentazione politica per poter intervenire attivamente nella costruzione di un modello sociale e economico più giusto. Sostengono che il problema della povertà si possa risolvere attraverso un’azione politica e lottano affinché la voce del “Sud del mondo” possa essere ascoltata anche nel “Nord del mondo”.

Un partito realmente piccolissimo (ma con rappresentazione in quasi tutta Spagna) composto da persone che credono in ideali (probabilmente) utopici, che impegnano anima e corpo in quello che fanno e che rappresentano l’esatta contrapposizione ai grandi partiti politici attuali (spagnoli come italiani). Portatori di quella vicinanza, ingenuità, frescura, innocenza, voglia di compromettersi… che il bipolarismo ci ha fatto dimenticare da molti anni.

Nonostante il limitato budget a disposizione, la campagna elettorale si è dimostrata un successo. Una campagna con un approccio totalmente differente rispetto agli altri partiti in Spagna. Iniziata con un atto di protesta di fronte al Congresso di Madrid, seguita da un recital poetico e musicale con i candidati travestiti da pirati, cercando di raccontare la storia di una nave (una metafora della nostra società) assaltata da pirati che credono che un mondo migliore sia possibile e un viaggio notturno di 8 ore fino a Ceuta (città spagnola nel nord Africa, dove una rete metallica divide materialmente il “Nord” dal “Sud” del mondo) per leggere un manifesto a favore della chiusura dei centri di detenzione per immigrati (CIE).

Nonostante non abbiamo ottenuto un posto in parlamento, il partito ha raddoppiato il numero dei voti (con un 95% di voti in più alla camera e 65% al senato) rispetto al 2008 e ha dimostrato che con poche risorse si possono raggiungere importanti risultati.

Last sunday, November 20, Spain held an early general election with a clear victory of Mariano Rajoy, leader of the right-wing party Partido Popular-PP (People’s Party).

Before the election, I decided it would be very interesting to follow the political campaign of a minority party, and show a different reality other than the bi-partidism headed by the immovable parties PP (People’s Party) and PSOE (Socialist’s Workers Party) in Spain.

At a time when politics and politicians are more and more difficult to trust, one can still find people who have ideals and also have the strength to fight for them.

For this reason, I chose to follow the political campaign of a party called Por un mundo más justo (“Towards a fairer world”). Unrelated to the 15M, or Indignados Movement, this party was founded 8 years ago by people involved in International Cooperation with the aim of obtaining political representation so as to be able to have the opportunity to build a fairer economic and social model.

It is their opinion that poverty can be eradicated through political action, and they are committed to fight so that the voice of the “South of the world” can be heard in the “North”. A very small party (although with political representation in almost the whole country) formed by people who believe in utopian ideals -some may say-, who fight with body and soul and who represent right the opposite of the major current parties in Spain.

They represent that kind of proximity, ingenuousness, coolness, innocence and commitment… that the bi-partidism made us forget some time ago.

Despite their low budget, the campaign was a success. A campaign with a very different approach compared to the major parties in Spain. With an act in front of the Congress in Madrid, a music and poetry recital disguised as pirates, in an attempt to portray the story of a ship (representing our current society) being hijacked by pirates who believe a better world is possible, an overnight trip by car to Ceuta (where the border fence separates Spain from Africa, the “first” from the “third” world) in order to read a communiqué in the CIE immigration detention center, etc. they managed to  illustrate the foundations of their political campaign.

Despite not obtaining a seat in the Congress or reaching the Senate, the party Por un mundo más justo succeeded in this election, with more than double the votes (an increase of 95% votes for the Congress and 65% for the Senate) in comparison to the election of 2008.
