 UBUNTU, l’asilo della solidarietà

Il centro UBUNTU si trova nel cuore del centro storico di Palermo.

L’asilo UBUNTU (mi piace chiamarlo così) è ospitato al piano terra di un vecchio condominio; in realtà, si tratta di un antico palazzo del comune che fu sede di pretura e poi, ridotto a semplice e lurido deposito del tribunale di Palermo. Ma un gruppo di volontari, guidati dal consigliere comunale Fabrizio Ferrandelli, sono riusciti a farsi affidare e a ristrutturare questa parte del palazzo.

E così, è nato l’asilo UBUNTU.

UBUNTU è un’associazione di volontariato nata nel 2006 nel cuore della vecchia Palermo che, seguendo la filosofia dalla quale prende il nome,  nasce con l’obiettivo di aiutare e dare supporto alle famiglie di immigrati che vivono e lavorano sul territorio palermitano.

Il supporto dei volontari alle famiglie si concretizza nell’occuparsi quotidianamente dei loro figli e permettere loro di andare a svolgere  serenamente il proprio lavoro con la consapevolezza che c’è un gruppo di persone che si occupa dei bambini come se fossero loro: dall’andare a prenderli a scuola, al pranzo, al doposcuola, al gioco, allo sviluppo della loro creatività.

UBUNTU è una realtà umanamente accogliente, che culla, protegge, cresce ed educa i bambini palermitani dalla pelle nera…ma non solo.

L’asilo UBUNTU è riuscito a diffondere la propria filosofia sul territorio in cui si trova attraverso l’impegno, le azioni e le energie quotidiani dei suoi volontari. Il sussurrato invito a sostenersi e aiutarsi reciprocamente, a prendere coscienza non solo dei propri diritti, ma anche dei doveri, la spinta ideale ed il desiderio di pace, il rispetto e l’amore verso l’uomo, la reciprocità nel sostegno, la dignità nell’aiuto e nella solidarietà hanno dato vita ad una rete sociale ed umana che opera, giorno per giorno, a sostenere UBUNTU in un’ottica di cambiamento reale e diffuso.

Il centro UBUNTU oggi è in grado di accogliere bambini, di tutte le etnie e provenienti da quartieri diversi della città ed attraverso un approccio interculturale, in un’ottica d’integrazione, il centro è in grado di offrire ai bambini nuovi servizi per una crescita individuale e collettiva, libera e sociale.

La mattina UBUNTU è baby parking per i bimbi più piccoli che non vanno a scuola o, ancora peggio, che non trovano posto negli asili nido comunali inadeguati numericamente rispetto alle esigenze del territorio.

Un pullman di medie dimensioni permette ai volontari di andare  a prendere i bambini all’uscita della scuola materna ed elementare (un servizio anche questo quotidiano). I bambini, così, vengono presi da scuola e portati ad UBUNTU dove li aspetta un sano pranzetto.

Dopo pranzo è il momento dello studio! Inizia il doposcuola e diversi operatori volontari accompagnano i bambini nello svolgimento dei compiti seguendoli con attenzione e precisione.

E dopo i compiti finalmente il gioco.  Ogni gioco fa parte di un laboratorio ludico che favorisce il lavoro in gruppo tra fasce di età diverse. Si alternano così laboratori teatrale, musicale, di disegno e colore, artistico, di creazione di oggetti, di riciclo creativo, di cucina e di lingua straniera.

E questi sono i momenti che mi hanno maggiormente coinvolto dal punto di vista emotivo. Perché ti accorgi che, come per tutti i bambini del mondo, il gioco e la curiosità sono nel  loro vivere, nel loro modo di essere. Si avvicinano prima timidamente, poi iniziano a chiedermi se possono osservare da vicino la mia macchina fotografica. Alla fine della giornata, qualcuno di loro ha già imparato ad usare la mia Canon (o almeno, ha imparato a scattare una fotografia) ed alcune delle fotografie  della galleria sono opera loro. Puro istinto e voglia di divertirsi riguardando la loro opera fotografica.

I giochi sono talmente coinvolgenti che non ci si accorge che sono già le 18.00 ed i genitori cominciano a venire a prendere i figli. Entrano si intrattengono, si chiacchiera, si ride e si parla.

Anche per i genitori UBUNTU è una casa!

Il mio viaggio in questa splendida realtà si sta concludendo con il cuore e gli occhi gonfi di tanta allegria e dolcezza decido di iniziare a salutare tutti i bambini ancora rimasti ed in attesa dei genitori. La mia esperienza fotografica all’interno del centro mi ha permesso di testimoniare il lavoro fondamentale di tanti bravissimi volontari che con l’allegria dei bambini extra comunitari, cercano di realizzare il sogno di un mondo più giusto e più attento al rispetto dei diritti di tutti questi bambini indipendentemente dal colore della loro pelle o dalla lingua che parlano.

Il sostegno, la fiducia, la comunanza d’intenti e la vicinanza d’anime tra UBUNTU e coloro che la sostengono ha permesso ai bambini palermitani dalla pelle nera e alle loro famiglie di non sentirsi stranieri in casa loro e ha garantito loro di potere prendere tra le mani la speranza di un mondo di pace, non violenza e solidarietà.

Oggi in UBUNTU si assiste ad un vero, spontaneo e gioioso processo di integrazione tra popoli e genti che passa attraverso i bambini. Crescono insieme quotidianamente e stanno già ponendo le basi per la società alla quale noi tutti aspiriamo.

I volontari di UBUNTU

Il centro UBUNTU ha saputo creare nel quartiere un clima di apertura e solidarietà. E’ anche un presidio di legalità con un’arma potentissima: la cultura del sapere. E proprio questo talvolta ha creato anche qualche problema ai volontari. Circa un anno fa, infatti, questo presidio di legalità e coesione è stato bersaglio di intimidazioni: sono state rubate alcune attrezzature importanti per il centro, è stata rubata addirittura la pasta conservata nei magazzini fino alla distruzione di alcuni vetri del pullman utilizzato per il trasporto dei ragazzi. Forse a qualcuno non è piaciuta l’idea di sostituire spacciatori e omertà, con la vita e la solidarietà. Ma i  volontari hanno resistito e vinto la loro battaglia perché questa realtà continua a vivere e a lavorare per migliorare la vita di tutti i bambini che ospita e che continuerà ad ospitare.

Oggi UBUNTU è un mondo a colori fatto di tutti i colori del mondo!

The UBUNTU center is located in the heart of the historical center of Palermo.

The nursery UBUNTU (I like to call it that) is housed on the ground floor of an old building, but in reality, it is an ancient palace of the town which was the seat of district court and then, reduced to a simple storage and filthy court of Palermo. But a group of volunteers, led by the alderman Fabrizio Ferrandelli, were able to assign themselves and restructure this part of the building.

 And so was born the  UBUNTU center.
Ubuntu is a voluntary association founded in 2006 in the heart of old Palermo, following the philosophy by which it is named, was born with the objective to help and give support to the families of immigrants who live and work on the territory of Palermo.

The volunteers support to families is realized every day in dealing with their children and allow them to go and do your work peacefully with the knowledge that there is a group of people who takes care of the children as if they had them from going to take them to school, at lunch, the after-school, play and develop their creativity.

Ubuntu is a reality humanly warm, cradling, protects, grows and educates children from Palermo … but not just black skin.

The nursery UBUNTU succeeded in spreading his philosophy on the territory where there is through the efforts, actions and daily energies of its volunteers. The whispered call for support and help each other, not only to become aware of their rights but also duties, the drive ideal and the desire for peace, respect and love for man, reciprocity in the support, dignity in the help and solidarity have created a social network and human work, day after day, to support Ubuntu with a view to real change and widespread.

Today, the Ubuntu center is able to accommodate children of all ethnicities and from different neighborhoods of the city and through an intercultural approach, in view of integration, the center is able to offer new services for children’s growth individual and collective, and social freedom.

In the morning, Ubuntu is a baby parking for younger children not attending school or, even worse, have no place in municipal day-care centers numerically inadequate to meet the needs of the territory.
A little bus allows volunteers to go get the kids out of school and primary (including this daily service). Children, thus, are taken from school and taken to the nursery where they expect a healthy lunch.

After lunch, it’s the time of the study! After school starts and several volunteers  accompany the children with homework carefully and follow them precisely.
And finally the game after the tasks. Each game play is part of a laboratory that fosters teamwork between different age groups. Alternate laboratories so theatrical, musical, design and color, art, object creation, creative recycling, cooking and foreign language.

And these are the moments that I have most affected by the emotional point of view. Why do you realize that, like all children of the world, play and curiosity are in their life, their ways of being. They approach the first timidly, then begin to wonder if they can closely observe my camera. At the end of the day, some of them have already learned to use my Canon (or at least, has learned to take a picture) and some of the gallery are photographs of their work. Pure instinct and desire to have fun covering their photographic work.

The games are so compelling that no one realizes that it’s already 6:00 pm and the parents begin to take the children to come. Come entertain you, we chat, we laugh

and talk.

For the parents UBUNTU is a house!

My trip to this wonderful reality is ending with the heart and eyes full of sweetness and lots of fun I decided to begin to greet all the children were still waiting and their parents. My photographic experience within the center allowed me to witness to the fundamental work of many talented volunteers with the joy of children’s non-EU, seeking to realize the dream of a world more just and more careful to respect the rights of all these children regardless of the color of their skin or the language they speak.

The support, trust, commonality of purpose and closeness of souls between UBUNTU and those who support has allowed the children of Palermo from the black skin and their families do not feel strangers in their house, and guaranteed them to be able to take in his hands the hope of a world of peace, nonviolence and solidarity.
Today we are witnessing a real Ubuntu, spontaneous and joyful process of integration between peoples and nations that passes through the children. Grow together every day and are already laying the foundations for the society to which we all aspire to.

The UBUNTU center has created a climate in the district of openness and solidarity. It’s also a garrison of legality with a powerful weapon: the culture of learning. And sometimes it has also created some problems for volunteers. About a year ago, in fact, this defense of law and cohesion has been the target of intimidation: they were stolen some important equipment for the center, even the pasta was stolen stored in warehouses until the destruction of some windows of the bus used to transport of the boys.

Maybe someone did not like the idea of ​​replacing drug dealers and silence, with life and solidarity. But volunteers have persevered and won their battle because this reality continues to live and work to improve the lives of all children and that housing will continue to host.

Today, Ubuntu is a colorful world made ​​of all the colors of the world!
