Shoot 4 Peace contest. And the winners are…

It’s over. The contest Shoot 4 Peace showed how difficult was to interpret with a photo the Internet 4 Peace Manifesto. Rather conceptual and easy to go off topic.

But the reaction was enthusiastic and altough we were not invested by tons of photos, you entered some quite interesting shots.

The Jury (composed by myself and Antonio Politano, Alessandro Barteletti, Amedeo Novelli and Gabriele Kash Torsello) decided to declare two winners ex equo: a photo shot by albanian photographer Klodjana Dervishi (now living in San Francisco) during the World March for Peace and Non Violence in San Francisco and one by Marco Palladino (Rome’s photographer) shot in the outskirts of Sultanhamet neighborhood of Istanbul.

Two very different images. While Klodjana Dervishi shows there are no age limits to be willing to witness events and share them with the World, using new technlogies, Marco Palladino urges a reflection on the fact that hardware is just a piece of plastic and metal if not used properly. You need culture, education and access.

Second rank for Yelena Posniak’s photo from Brigthon Beach in New York. A concept shot that made everybody smile. It shows a young kid facing a “graffiti” made up on occasion for S4C and I4P… Who knows what is he thinking….

Finally, a special mention for Claudio Genghini’s photos that show the importance of Internet in the telemedicine field. Apart from the invaluable role as a network of culture and individuals, Internet can save lifes.

The photos of the winners will now be forwarded to Wired Magazine who’s leading the Internet 4 Peace campaign, in the hope they’ll be appreciated by them as much as they were here.

I would like to thank everybody who entered the contest. You all seem to have fully understood the spirit of this contest/game. For once in a while, there were no prizes. No money, to gifts. Just the fun of be part of it.

Since the launch of the campaign Internet 4 Peace, we talked about that; we discussed; we confronted opposing ideas (all worth being considered and valued); we organised a Flahmob 4 Peace in Rome; we asked your ideas and your photos.

We had fun.

We are all very aware that Internet is not only a peacefull and enriching place. Everbody’s aware of the risks and threats that lies behind the curtains. But the huge peaceful potential is overwhelming and we at Shoot 4 Change know better how important is to connect individuals (photographers in our case) online.

We shoot small time local stories and connect them worlwide to change global. It’s our motto:

Shoot Local, Change Global!

It would be useless without the Internet.
