Photographs, words, social networks, networked creativty, crowdsourcing, crowdphotography, blogging, talking, chalking, playing…. They can all be amazing tools of peace.

Those who understand it and are able to use them can handle powerful weapons of peace.

People want peace, and when given a voice, they’ll work tirelessly for it. In the short term, a Twitter account may be no match for an AK-47, but in the long term the keyboard is mightier than the sword” said Wired U.S. Editor-in-Chief Chris Anderson in an article about Wired  Italy fantastic initiative in support of INTERNET FOR PEACE.

Wired Italy will promote the initiative in each issue through September 2010, telling the stories of “those who — thanks to the web — have tried and still try to give peace a chance.”

Many around the World are joining in and backing the endevour. It’s worth doing it.

And Shoot for Change S4C could not seat and watch. We were born as a network of photographers who believe in the amazing power of photography to change, slowly and little by little, our World also using Internet.

We build networks of creativity throughout the world using Internet. We reach out to distant countries, overcoming old fashioned boundaries and bringing people together. We did it with the World March for Peace and Nonviolence (where we had dozens of photographers involved around the World on a voluntary basis) and we did it for the UB Global Coalition Aganist Poverty.

We keep doing it with all other ongoing projects and with the help of our incredibile S4C team in New York City as well (we really build bridge over the Ocean…).

So, today we start shooting for peace, too.

We count on all our S4C photographers and friends to interprete the theme of Internet4Peace. We’ll post here the best and we’ll talk about realted and join initiatives.

We won’t change the World today, nor we’ll obtain Peace now. But we are already making it a little be better.

It’s worth it. SHOOT WITH US, SHOOT FOR PEACE, SHOOT FOR CHANGE!
