[S4C NEWS] SHOOT FOR CHANGE MALAYSIA!

It’s always good news when  ideas start spreading around and reach far away places. Places you had not thought you could get at first.

I’m very happy to welcome the launch of Shoot for Change Malaysia thanks to the coordinating efforts of our new friend Amanda Lorraine Ting.

Today for the very firt post of S4C Malaysia, she reports on the International Women’s Day in Kuala Lumpur last 13th March.

In Malaysia, we are still struggling in certain areas of justice for women such as career advancement, domestic  abuse, even in the legal system, women are often at disadvantage. Especially outside of big cities,  most women are not aware of their rights, they stay in abusive relationships not knowing help is available  and often subjected to as ‘the lesser man’.

And even if they knew that help is available, many would not seek for it for fear of stigma, at risk of being ostracized by family members. Through social awareness campaigns,it is with hope that we can affect change within our own culture.

International Women’s Day Celebration
Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Date: 13th March 2010
The celebration was a festival cum solidarity march in support to defend and uphold women’s rights, promoting justice and equality for all. Over 1000 people from all walks of life attended the event themed  ‘Equal Right, Equal Opportunity, Progress for All’ where they also had concerts and performances after the walk.

    This is an awesome cause. I strongly believe that all women should have equal rights, no matter what country they live in. Thank you for bringing this issue to light with your photography campaingn.

    I think this is the strenght of this network. Apart being a network of great people and professionals, it’s a web of stories.
    We, in italy, would have never seen those photos of the rally in Kuala Lumpur…
