Sfila l’orgoglio omosessuale per le strade di New York City.

A due giorni dall’approvazione da parte del Senato dello Stato di New York della legge che autorizza i matrimoni delle coppie dello stesso sesso, una delle più grandi e antiche parate per la difesa dei diritti gay diventa una enorme marcia festosa per celebrare un trionfo storico del movimento LBGT, non solo americano.

Più di due milioni di persone, secondo gli organizzatori, hanno sfilato dalla 36th street lungo la Fifth Avenue verso downtown fino al Greenwich Village, luogo simbolo della lotta  gay, per affermare l’orgoglio della propria identità, nel pieno rispetto dell’uguaglianza dei diritti,  ma soprattutto per fare festa, per dire grazie a New York e ad Andrew Cuomo, Governatore dello Stato, italo americano e cattolico dichiarato, uno dei maggiori promotori e firmatario del Marriage Equality Act.

Anche lui era tra la folla, insieme al sindaco Bloomberg e ad altri volti noti della scena politica e sociale Newyorchese.

In marcia oltre ai molti gruppi di attivisti, tanti rappresentanti della società civile, aziende promotrici dell’evento, associazioni religiose e famiglie.

New York è il sesto e più grande Stato dove da ora sarà consentito il matrimonio tra persona dello stesso sesso. Gli attivisti che da decenni si battono per i diritti omosessuali sperano adesso in un effetto domino e che il provvedimento faccia da traino per misure simili anche in altri Stati in USA.

Intanto il Presidente Obama dopo alcuni tentennamenti iniziali, si dichiara a favore dei matrimoni gay.

Quest’anno è New York la destinazione numero uno al mondo per festeggiare l’orgoglio omosessuale e intanto la città si prepara ad accogliere, a partire dal prossimo 24 luglio, le migliaia di nuove richieste di matrimonio.

Gay pride parade through the streets of New York City

Two days after the approval by the Senate of the State of New York of the law authorizing the marriages of same-sex couples, one of the largest and oldest parades in the defense of gay rights becomes a huge festive march to celebrate a historic triumph LBGT movement, not just American.

More than two million people, according to organizers, marched from 36th Street along Fifth Avenue to downtown to Greenwich Village, a symbol of the struggle gay pride to assert their own identity, while fully respecting the equality of rights but especially to party, to say thank you in New York and Andrew Cuomo, Governor of the State, said Italian-American and Catholic, one of the biggest promoters of the Marriage Equality Act and signatory.

He too was in the crowd, along with Mayor Bloomberg and other notables of the political and social scene in New York.

In addition to running several activist groups, many representatives of civil society, companies sponsoring the event, religious associations and families.

New York is the sixth largest state, and which now will be allowed marriage between same-sex relationship. The activists who are fighting for decades for gay rights now hoping a domino effect and that the measure faces a driving force for similar measures in other states in the USA.

Meanwhile, President Obama after some initial hesitation, was in favor of gay marriage.

This year is New York the number one destination in the world to celebrate Gay Pride parade, and while the city prepares to welcome, from next July 24, thousands of new applications for marriage.
