f/8 and Be Happy: Bohemian happiness in a digital world

“Bohemianism is the practice of an unconventional lifestyle, often in the company of like-minded people, with few permanent ties, involving musical, artistic, or literary pursuits. In this context, Bohemians may be wanderers, adventurers, or vagabonds.

This use of the word bohemian first appeared in the English language in the nineteenth century[1] to describe the non-traditional lifestyles of marginalized and impoverished artists, writers, journalists, musicians, and actors in major European cities. Bohemians were associated with unorthodox or anti-establishment political or social viewpoints, which often were expressed through free love, frugality, and—in some cases—voluntary poverty.” (Wikipedia)

On 17 July, at 12:00 in Palazzo Vagnotti in Cortona (during the fantastic Cortona on the Move Photo Festival) Donald Winslow (NPPA) and I will lead a panel discussion, “f/8 And Be Happy: Finding Bohemian Happiness in a Digital World.”

How Photographers find “happiness” in their lives, both professionally and personally, and what role that being happy plays in their career and in how they work?

Some of the obstacles to happiness, we are theorizing, might be debt and overcoming obstacles and limitations and business practices and needs fulfillment, etc. But other topics might apply.

Many – and diverse – are the paths or journey required to get you to that destination. And along the road you get to meet other like minded bohemian ones.

Does bohemian happiness apply in a digital World? I call myself a digital bohemian, because…
